See both Falcon soccer teams in action this weekend

This weekend, Aug. 19 and 20, Falcon fans will have the chance to see both the men's and women's soccer teams in action at DSC's new state-of-the-art soccer stadium. With just a few weeks left until the regular season begins, now is the time to catch a glimpse of our powerhouse soccer teams and the new facility they call home. Sunday night's women's match will also include a dress rehearsal for DSC's new TV production program which will be broadcasting live games on WDSC later this fall.

Men's soccer, ranked #5 in the NJCAA DI preseason poll, will take on NCAA DII opponent Flagler College at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night, Aug. 19. This friendly competition will feature at least two familiar faces on the opposing side -- junior Quam Salami (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and junior Andres Pedraza (Tallahassee, Fla.) were both members of the inaugural DSC men's soccer squad in 2016. After winning the NJCAA Southeast District Championship last year, the men's team is looking to keep their momentum going and start the 2017 season strong.

The Falcon women's soccer team will face NCAA DII opponent Embry-Riddle at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday night, Aug. 20. Last year, the Eagles hosted the Falcons' home games while the new stadium was under construction, so the team is excited to welcome their Daytona Beach neighbors over for a friendly scrimmage on DSC turf. This will be the Falcons' last scrimmage before they begin regular season play on Aug. 25 at USC Lancaster.

During Sunday night's match, DSC will also hold its first dress rehearsal for the school's new TV production program live broadcast. Working closely with WDSC, the school's on campus public broadcasting channel, Daytona State has developed a new Associate of Science degree program in Broadcast Television Production which launches this fall. Students will receive hands-on experience filming, editing and producing a live sports broadcast and live coaches' show in conjunction with the DSC athletics program. Broadcast dates for live games and the coaches' show will be announced soon.

Women's volleyball will also kick off their 2017 season soon, with a home scrimmage against State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 6:00 p.m.
