New Look Falcons Open the Season with 104-89 Win

Daytona State won the opening game of the 2018-2019 season by a score of 104-89. It marks the first win of the Brock Morris era in Daytona Beach. Against PHS Academy, the Falcons showed the ability to get out, run fast, and score a lot of points. It's an exciting style of play that had the fans at L. Gale Lemerand Center on their feet. Khadim Sy led all scorers with 23 points. Dou Gueye followed that with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Bryce Williams added 11 points and 7 assists.

We followed up with first Brock Morris after his first official win as the Head Coach of your Daytona State Falcons, and he had this to say, "It was good for our team to face someone else as opposed to battling each other every day. We saw a lot of good things for it being our first outing. We were happy that we were able to get everyone in the game for extended minutes and see what some of the younger players did when the lights were on. Our basketball character must improve if we are going to reach the goals this team has. We can't allow teams to have hope in the final ten minutes, no matter who is in the game. I was disappointed that our intensity level dropped late in the game." Morris spoke on the crowd and the excitement, "Our fans were great, hopefully they enjoyed our style of play, they really brought energy and created a tough environment. We need that kind of environment every night." Morris continued on his thoughts, "We shot the ball well, ran at a good pace, and really competed for thirty minutes. Tomorrow we need to come out with the same intensity and continue it through the full forty minutes."
