MEN'S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO CARRY PRESEASON SUCCESS INTO REGULAR SEASON
Over the last month, the Daytona State Men's basketball team has competed in a total of five jamboree games and one closed scrimmage. On October 7th, the Falcons traveled to Tallahassee Community College and posted an impressive 3-0 record as they took on Shelton State (ranked #17 in the nation last year), Chipola (Florida state runner-up), and Polk State. On October 13th in Apopka, FL, the Falcons played Northwest Florida State (Ranked the #1 team in the country heading into this season) and Indian Hills (ranked #1 seed going into the national tournament last year, and is ranked #12 headed into this season). Daytona lost a thrilling game to NWF by a score of 52-50 as what would've been the game winning three, rattled out of the hoop. Later that day, the Falcons bounced back with a solid performance and a win over Indian Hills.
On October 27th, Embry-Riddle came to campus for a closed scrimmage. It was a battle for bragging rights in Daytona. A back and forth game that revealed great toughness, saw the Falcons come out on top 82-74.
The Falcons concluded their preseason with a 5-1 record. First year Head Coach Brock Morris had this to say about his Falcons: "I'm really excited about the progress this team has made in its first two months together…Sometimes chemistry takes a while to form, but we have been really good, early about caring for each other. Bringing energy, effort, and enthusiasm every day. Falcon fans will not want to miss a second of this team competing. We are going to represent the city of Daytona Beach, nationally, in a very positive manner."
The Falcons have just been ranked 18th in the country by NJCAA, as of 10-29-18.
The schedule opens up with the first regular season game set for Friday, November 2nd at 7:30 p.m. Anyone who attends the game wearing a costume, will be admitted for FREE!!
