Daytona State College Men's Basketball Head Coach Brock Morris was selected to participate in the 2019 Collegiate Consortium Cohort during the NCAA Final Four in Minneapolis in April.
31 coaches were selected from all across the nation to participate in this prestigious event. Morris was the lone junior college representative selected. The Consortium is a collaboration between AthleticDirectorU, the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and the VCU Center for Sports Leadership. The Consortium's board of directors' work to identify and invite qualified participants who are likely to become head coaches on the Division I level within the next 2-3 years.
Morris, who came to Daytona State with eight years of NCAA Division One experience, most recently at the University of South Alabama, is in his first year as the Head Coach for Daytona State. During his first season Morris lead his team to an impressive 25-6 overall record, Mid Florida Conference Tournament Championship, sixteen weeks ranked in the NJCAA Top 25 poll, and the best Team GPA in program history. After being hired on May 2nd, Morris inherited a program that only had two returning players. Morris and his staff signed twelve student athletes in four months. The roster produced four players ranked in the NJCAA Top 100, six all conference selections, including conference player of the year Khadim Sy, and Mid Florida Conference Scholar Athlete of the year Dou Gueye. Eleven players achieved a GPA of 3.2 or higher in the fall semester, and the program set Daytona State Men's Basketball GPA records for Summer 2019, 3.55 and Fall 2019, 3.32. Attendance for Falcon home games skyrocketed to 5th nationally, also a school record. Daytona State also lead the Mid Florida Conference offensively this season averaging 87.2 points per game. DSC currently has three players signed to NCAA Division One scholarships: Bryce Williams - Ole Miss, Durey Cadwell -University of Buffalo, and Corbin Merritt - University of Oklahoma. Six more student athletes are expected to sign National Letters of Intent during the spring 2019 signing period. The Falcons have qualified for the NJCAA Region 8 Championship March 7th through the 9th.
