Falcons Give Back to Daytona Beach Community

The Men's Basketball team at Daytona State College have not only been outstanding on the court these days, but equally exceptional in the Daytona Beach community.  The Falcons kicked the new year off right with a community service project that benefited the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Volusia County.  Daytona State College worked alongside Habitat for Humanity to enhance a local project house for the charitable organization.

This is the Falcons fourth straight year of partnership with Habitat for Humanity.  This exceptional organization allows applicants to apply for housing that is fully funded and maintained by Habitat for Humanity.  That is where groups like Daytona State College have an opportunity to make an impact.  The Falcons have been able to assist over the years in maintenance, as well as, construction efforts for these Habitat for Humanity homes.

The Falcon Men's Basketball players alongside the coaching staff either grabbed a paint brush or picked up a shovel on January 4th and got to work on this year's Habitat for Humanity home.  Throughout the day the Falcons worked nonstop to add finishing touches to the house.  They added fresh coats of paint and even assisted in the finishing stages of gutter installation on the project house.  Their assistance extended to landscaping and clean up as they planted bushes, cleaned debris, and laid sod around the entire property.

"It is always refreshing to give back and to see our guys work hard to help the community and to assist a cause greater than themselves. I am proud of these young men and the efforts they made today in helping a family in need.  It was great to see the teamwork and effort that went into this exceptional cause," commented Coach Ridder on their volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity.

Daytona State is currently ranked 25th in the nation and is boasting an impressive 17-4 overall record.  They are on a 13 game winning streak and remain undefeated in Mid-Florida Conference play.  Daytona State College is committed to not only winning on the court, but being all-stars in the Daytona Beach community.
