Daytona State College Opens FCSAA Tournament With A Win

Men's Basketball Open FCSAA Tournament with Win

March 3, 2016

Daytona State College took on the Eagles of Polk State College Wednesday night at College of Central Florida in the opening round of play for the FCSAA Tournament.  In front of a loud and energized crowd, the Falcons look to take care of the unfinished business from the previous two seasons that saw the Falcons knocked out of the state tournament in the opening rounds.

The physical match up was filled with numerous lead changes, ultimately leading to an exciting finish, where Daytona State College captured the win by the smallest of margins, defeating Polk State College 78-75.

The Falcons were led in scoring by sophomore guards, Brandon Maxwell and Kendrick Thompson.  Both Thompson and Maxwell knocked down 20 points for Daytona State.  Additionally, freshman forward Nashad Mackey added a double-double for the Falcons.  Mackey recorded 12 points and 10 boards, leading the way for the Falcons in rebounds.

The Falcons will rest today, as the Lady Falcons take on Northwest Florida, and will be back in action on Friday at 3:00PM against Tallahassee Community College.  Daytona State and Tallahassee haven't played since a 2014 match up in Daytona Beach at Daytona State College.  It is likely to be a physical match-up between these two teams as they compete to acquire a spot in the championship game Saturday afternoon.  The winner of the FCSAA State Tournament will head to Hutchinson, Kansas.
