Daytona State College Is Now Building its Esports Program & Community

Daytona State College is now working on building its esports program & community following the announcement of the program.

The program will begin with 4 games: Rocket League, Overwatch, League of Legends, and Valorant. These teams will all begin competing in a tier 3 league that is required for any new school joining the league. There can be multiple teams in each game that join the tier 3 league. The students can make teams with friends and family in tier 3.

The esports facility is close to having its grand opening. There has been much productivity from the staff esports initiative to get the room completed as efficiently and timely as possible. Testing has been done on the computers and everything is looking great thus far. More announcements will be made about the esports facility as updates occur.

Tryouts for the first varsity teams will be announced after the required tier 3 matches have been completed and the teams are expected to be competing in the tier 1 league in the spring. Updates for tryouts will be announced in October. There is interest in adding new games to the program in the future, however, in the program’s early stages these are the 4 that have been approved.

The program will offer many opportunities for students not competing on a competitive roster as well! The Daytona State Esports Club will have many opportunities for students to play games, network with other students, and get involved with the program without being on a roster. There will be student officer roles that need to be filled for beginning a student committee for the program. This committee will be able to offer a voice for the students as this program is for YOU, the students. The program/club will also have a content/stream team. More information on the stream team and the application process will be announced in November.

The Club is going to have many enjoyable events monthly as well! Some of these events will be monthly campus gatherings, monthly online game nights, esports watch parties and more! The community is being hosted on the school’s Discord channel.

Please join the school Discord server as we will be making the most of our announcements in that channel. Please feel free to reach out to the esports coordinator Sebastian Morales in the Discord channel or at Sebastian.Morales@daytonastate.edu or at (386) 506-3838.
