Falcon Baseball Aids in Hurricane Irma Cleanup

DAYTONA BEACH, FL--

On the first Saturday following Hurricane Irma, memebers of the Falcon baseball team were on the beach aiding in the recovery efforts from the recent storm. That Saturday was also International Coastal Cleanup Day.

"Every piece of trash picked up is one step closer to keeping our enviornemnt and sea life a cleaner and safer place," said sophomore Mario Presutti.

Along side other members of the community, the Falcon players walked down the beach picking up any trash or debris that was in the sand or in the bushes. Sophomore Trey Thigpen, a Port Orange, FL native, was a part of the clean up and said,

"The beach has been a great pleasure to me my whole life so it felt good to give back and do my part in keeping our local beach clean."

Fellow Sophomore teammate and Bunnell, FL native, Austin Massebeau also was happy to be a cog in the clean up effort.

"Being able to help out the (Daytona State College) Science Club at the beach cleanup was a great opportunity for our team to give back to the school."

Massebeau continued, "It's important to also make an impact in the community we represent, on and off the field."

The cleanup effort took a little over two hours before the volunteers called it a day. Freshman Keiji Parkhurst was asked about the clean up efforts and said,

"Personally, I picked up around 30 pieces of trash, from bottle caps to large pieces of wood."
