Daytona State Baseball Walking for the Heart

Daytona Beach, FL—

 The Falcon baseball team was on the track for a good cause on Friday the 13th for the 2017 Volusia/Flagler Heart Walk. This annual event was hosted at the Daytona International Speedway and put on by the American Heart Association to help raise money and awareness for heart disease and heart stroke. It was also a time to honor and acknowledge survivors of both heart disease and stroke.

The Falcon baseball team raised $270 that went to the American Heart Association, which was a part of the $138,073 raised overall by the event.

The evening concluded with a 2.5 mile run/walk on the Daytona International Speedway track where Daytona State baseball’s own Joey Hecht was the “pole winner” with a time of 16:54.

The freshman Centerville, Ohio native said after the race, “It was a great event for a great cause and I can always say I won a race at Daytona International Speedway.”

The Heart Walk Victory Lane podium also included another Falcon player, red shirt freshman Keiji Parkhurst finished 2nd logging a time of 18:05.  

Associate Director of Campus Safety, Paul Barnett was coordinator for the participation of the Falcon Baseball team in the Heart Walk.

Barnett said, “This event is for a great cause and I want to thank Coach Touma and the Daytona State Baseball program for being a great representation for the College at this event.”

 

  Freshman Joey Hecht won the 2017 American Heart Association Heartwalk Run/Walk with time of 16:54.

        Red Shirt Freshman Keji Parkhurst recieved 2nd place in the 2017 American Heart Association Heartwalk Run/Walk with time of 18:05. 

 Red shirt freshman Justin Rodriguez and Freshman Joey Hecht turn in the Falcon Baseball team's donation to the American Heart Association. The Falcon team raised $270 towards research for heart diesease and stroke.
