The Florida Collegiate League, launched in 2003, has provided opportunities to collegiate players all over the country a place to play and train during the summer.  This wood bat league currently boasts six teams scattered throughout Central Florida.  Baseball America considers the Florida Collegiate League one of the premier collegiate summer leagues. The strength of the program and players in the Florida Collegiate League, compliments the strong players developing in the Falcon Baseball program.  Daytona State is currently represented by several playing in the Florida Collegiate League teams.

One such player, representing the Falcons in the FCL is Gage Hutchinson.  Hutchinson is a returning right handed pitcher for Daytona State (Port Orange, FL).  Not only was he selected to play in this prestigious summer league, but he was also named to the Florida Collegiate League All-Star Team.

In addition to Hutchinson, Falcon teammate, Drew Peden (Debary, FL), is also a member of the Florida Collegiate League.  He, too,  was selected to pitch in the 2015 All-Star game.  He, too, is a righty on the Falcon pitching staff, and will also return for the Falcons in 2016.

Hutchinson, a local graduate of Spruce Creek High School, was the starting pitcher for the North, representing his team, the Deland Suns.  This summer,  Hutchinson has thrown 27.1 innings for the Suns, logging an impressive 1.32 era in 9 games, which included 3 starts.

Peden, from University High School, provided short relief for the North team.  He represented the Leesburg Lightning.  Peden, who recently committed to FAU, has earned 5 saves in 9 games over 11.2 innings, with 14 Ks, 1 BB, with a 1.54 era this summer.

The North and South All-Star teams squared off on Tuesday, July 7th at the historic Sanford Memorial Stadium.  Peden and Hutchinson, both members of the North All-Star squad, fell to the South All-Stars   1-7.
