Daytona State College Tabs Judy Wilson as Head Coach of the Falcons Cross Country Program

Daytona State College has named Judy Wilson as the head coach of the cross country program.  She officially took over the reins of the program on November 6th, 2017.  The signing date for the inaugural cross country class began November 1, 2017, and the Falcons will commence their first season in August, 2018.

Judy Wilson brings over twenty years of experience as a collegiate player and coach to the Falcons.  She's previously served as an assistant coach at the University of South Florida, and University of Connecticut.  Judy also served as the head coach of women's track and field and men's and women's cross country teams at DePauw University and also the Indiana University from 1998 – 2007.  While at the Indiana University as the head coach she was a part of three Big Ten Track Conference Championship teams.

As a collegiate athlete Wilson competed at Indiana University as a member of the Hoosiers distance teams.

Wilson is also committed to the development of young distance runners. She has worked in the local distance running community locally now for the last four years by competing with other local residents, and mentoring young local youth that desire to improve themselves as distance runners.

Judy Wilson's remarks on her hiring as DSC Head Cross Country Coach:

"I want to thank Daytona State College, Dr. Thomas LoBasso,  and Will Dunne for giving me this unique opportunity to initiate the cross country program at DSC.  I am hopeful that my past experiences in coaching intercollegiate cross country programs will make this an easy transition.  I am looking forward to developing many new relationships and building opportunities for the college and cross country program to be successful. "

Athletic Director Will Dunne's remarks on the hiring of Judy Wilson:

"We knew when we made the decision to add cross country to our intercollegiate athletic program sports offerings that this was perceived to be a very good job. We anticipated getting a lot of very highly qualified candidates in the pool and we were indeed fortunate to have a terrific pool from which we could select a group of finalists."

"We were looking for someone who first and foremost is about student-athletes.  We take care of our student-athletes athletically, academically, socially, and that they go out and make us proud on and off the field of play. We were also looking for someone with a great track record of integrity which is very important to us here at Daytona State.  We also looked for an expertise in cross country and distance running.   Coach Wilson has strong ties in the local, regional and national cross country circles, and as a coach and person she's a proven winner at the highest level."

"We found everything that we wanted. We found an expert in cross country and distance running who was a tremendous competitive athlete herself.  Coach Wilson is a person who has a tremendous connection with student-athletes.  She is a proven winner on an off the field of play, and I believe that we have the right individual to build the foundation of the DSC cross country program and be the leader our program in the years to come."
