DSC Adds New Assistant Baseball and Basketball Coaches

Daytona State College has hired two new additions to the Falcons' coaching roster. DSC alum Cameron Jergens will serve as the new assistant coach for the Falcons' baseball program while Dennan Morrow will step into the role of assistant coach for the Daytona State men's basketball team.

"These are both very exciting hires," said Will Dunne, DSC Athletic Director. "It's great to have Cameron back with us, he was a tremendous player and volunteer coach for us in the past. He'll be a great leader for our baseball program. And Dennan came highly recommended, he has some solid coaching experience and I think he will be a big asset for basketball. Both of these guys have the kind of character and integrity we look for to help build our student-athletes into great men on and off the field and court."

Jergens brings NCAA and summer league coaching experience back to his alma matter

Cameron Jergens returns to DSC after spending two years on the coaching staff at Coker College, a NCAA Division II program in South Carolina. During his time as an assistant with the Cobras, Jergens helped lead the team to back-to-back appearances in the South Atlantic Conference tournament, a first for the program.

A native of Centreville, Mich., Jergens pitched for the Falcons from 2009 to 2012 before transferring to North Carolina A&T where he earned his bachelor's degree in liberal studies. Following graduation, he returned to DSC as an volunteer assistant under current head coach Tim Touma for a year before heading off to Coker, where he picked up his master's degree in athletic administration while coaching.

Jergens also spent two summers as head coach of the St. Charles Captains in the Lewis & Clark collegiate baseball league in St. Louis, Mo. In his two seasons with the Captains, Jergens produced 10 Lewis & Clark All-Star selections and one league MVP. In his second season at the Captains' helm, Jergens' squad became the first wild card team to win the Lewis & Clark League Championship.

Morrow adds valuable experience as player and coach to men's basketball team

Dennan Morrow comes to the Falcons from Barton Community College in Barton, Kan., where he posted success as both a player and assistant coach. Most recently, Morrow helped lead Barton CC to a 25-8 season record and an appearance in the final four of the Region VI Championships. Morrow also helped three Cougars on the 2016-17 squad earn spots at NCAA Division I programs and postseason honors, including two All-Region VI team selections. The Barton men's basketball team also posted the highest team GPA in the Jayhawk conference with a 3.17.

A native of Larned, Kan., Morrow earned his bachelor's degree in business management and master's in academic advising from Kansas State University while also serving as a graduate assistant under coaches Frank Martin and Bruce Weber. During his time as a GA, Morrow and the Wildcats won the Big 12 Championship and made three NCAA Tournament appearances. K-State also connects Morrow and current Falcons' head coach Erik Pastrana, who mentored under Martin while earning his graduate degree in Manhattan, Kan., as well.

Prior to starting his coaching career, Morrow was a standout star for the Barton Cougars from 2008-2010. He holds the record for a single game three-point performance and helped lead the Cougars to the 2009 Jayhawk West title as a freshman. After leaving Barton, Morrow played one season at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan., where he averaged just over nine points a game and earned NAIA Academic All-American honors.
